We were up and at 'em by 8:00AM and the first stop was Timmy's!!!! Those TimBits go well for breakfast!!!!
We stopped for some more gas in Canada -- hopefully this will be the last time we have to fill up on the expensive stuff - at least until we are heading back home through Canada!! BUT - it was a full service station and there was an attendant that pumped the gas and washed the windshield!!! Don't see too much of that at all anymore!!!
We saw a few elk and some horses!!! The horses all had collars and bells around their necks!!! Haven't quite figured that out yet!!! They were right along the road and just looked at us!!
In Haines Junction, Yukon we saw this quaint little Catholic Church. It was refurbished into a church from an old quonset building that was used at one time by the army.
A Stepping stone outside the church.
We had a lot of cloudy and rainy and drizzly weather today so did not get too many scenery pictures. This picture was taken by Kluane Lake -- another huge and beautiful lake in the Yukon. This shows the fog right along the lake indicating the cool temperatures. A lot of the lakes are still almost totally iced over. This one was as well but there were thawed areas close by the shores.
FINALLY - ALASKA!!!
Well, Alaska again -- remember we went into Alaska at Hyder, Ak - way down south and since then we had to drive a long ways through British Columbia and The Yukon!! Now we are in the Big part of Alaska and ready to really see the sites!!
- The actual border crossing back into the good old USA is about 30 km ( 18 miles or so) from the actual Alaska sign!
The markers at the border.
We saw this Lynden Transport Truck at the border. Lynden Transport is based in Lynden, Wa.
The road between Whitehorse, Yukon and Tok, Alaska were like riding a roller coaster!!!! Frost heaves and patched holes in the road and a fast driver!! Good thing I had my seatbelt on!!!! I hope our car survives some of these roads!! Now that we are back in the States - the gas prices are awesome!!! $2.99 a gallon compared to almost $5.00 for the same amount in Canada!!!
The motel rates are about the same! We haven't had any trouble getting a motel and we usually sleep very well. Tok, Alaska is known as the Main Street of Alaska since when coming into Alaska you have to go through Tok and to get out of Alaska you have to go through Tok. The only town with that distinction.
And sharing an order of Shrimp and chips has our tummies happy again. Thanks to Fast Eddy's - the only restaurant in town!!
Hat # 4
That sun sure likes to shine a long time in this country!!!
